One of the things I love most about St. Pius V is the presence of the building –the huge and resplendent stain glass window, the magnificent marble and mosaics, all the candles and brass and statues, the bit of Roma incense that has permeated everything.
There’s something sublime about it all: You can just feel that this is a holy place.
Cheryl Curcio’s Cherry Hill Pre-School has a different kind of holiness. Don’t get me wrong, the place is manicured and the flowers outside of the school are brilliant. It’s exact and it’s elegant. But it fits snuggly into the neighborhood and – if you were busy and weren’t looking for it – you may not notice it driving by.
And yet, the work that she and her staff do is just as sacred.
Giada adores Ms. Cheryl and it’s pretty easy to see why. Sure, Ms. Cheryl’s Swiss-watch-esque organization and detail speaks to someone who puts long hours into her craft and who assiduously considers improvements and adjustments – if that much work goes into communicating with parents then you just kind of know how much verve goes into classroom activities, but the vibrant and hearty smile and “Good morning, Giada!” that greets her speaks to something else: Love.
And Giada loves it all, too. Get Giada started on school and she, joyously, enumerates all that her favorites: She loves checking to see if she has a job for the day (her favorites job is dressing the Nelly the Number Bear) and she loves rolling the dice. She loves all the toys – floor toys and table toys and Lego toys and Play Doh and Snap Baby dolls. She loves when Miss Valerie reads “the story about the tadpole that wanted to hop.”
It’s kind of great that “Cheryl” is really close, linguistically, to “Cherry,” as if she were meant, all along, to have this school.
What’s even better, though, is that she lives so close by: The school may not be as conspicuous as a house of God, but it’s clearly a beautiful home.
Sarah and I are so grateful that Giada is a part of this home.

Cherry Hill Pre School was the perfect school for our son. We wanted a warm, safe and caring environment for him - a continuation of our home. When we walked into Cherry Hill, that is exactly what we felt. It is the perfect size for little learners - one happy room filled with books, toys, puzzles, legos and of course learning. The work that our son brought home was thoughtful, creative and meaningful. He has grown so much - both emotionally and socially and he has learned so much. The carefully planned structure of the program helped our son feel confident and comfortable. Through the dedicated teaching of Miss Cheryl, Miss Delaine, and Miss Heather, our son is fully prepared for the challenges of kindergarten. Cherry Hill and the wonderful teachers there have been one of the best choices for our son.
Miss Cheryl, Words cannot describe how grateful we are with the educational foundation you and your staff provided to both of our little girls. Being a parent, it would be natural to have some apprehension about sending your child to kindergarten, yet, Kim and I sit here excited with anticipation to watch our daughter continue to blossom into a solid student. The skills she learned in her one year at Cherry Hill preschool far exceeded our wildest dreams for where she would be, and we can't thank you enough for believing in our daughter. She has gained all of the prerequisite skills needed, but more importantly, you instilled a sense of confidence in my daughter that she was greatly lacking, and this is a special skill that truly amazing teachers possess. Kim and I will always be grateful to the time, attention, and love you have showed for both of our children, and you will always have a special place in our family’s heart.

Miss Cheryl, Just wanted to congratulate you on another successful year at Cherry Hill preschool. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!! I was in awe from day one of your program. Just to see the interaction between you and the children was so special. They left your preschool confident and ready for kindergarten. I know how challenging it can be to operate a small business in this state. With they're over the top regulations it's no wonder small business's can't survive. I just hope and pray that Cherry Hill preschool can overcome these obstacles . How long will it take before our " elected officials " GET IT"? I know how passionate you are about teaching and the safety of your classroom and I hope the State of RI recognizes how important Cherry Hill preschool and other private preschools are to our communities and especially to our children. Looking forward to next year ---

To the wonderful ladies of Cherry Hill, My son went to your school last year and had the most perfect preschool experience. I also have to say that you put my mind at ease from the moment I met with you and visited your school. Your experience, the setup of the school and the curriculum speak for themselves as my son asks about returning to Cherry Hill often. It is unfortunate that not all of his school experiences will be as wonderful as the one you and the ladies provided for him. I write to you now to let you know how much I wish you taught kindergarten as well for I fear the awesome experience you provided is not going to be shoes easily filled. I refer everyone to your school and talk about you often with fellow parents and am never amazed as to how many have gone or go to your school. If ever a recommendation is needed you have only to ask. My sincerest appreciation and well wishes,

My son attended Cherry Hill PreSchool for 2 1/2 years. He was very attached and somewhat shy...going to school at Cherry Hill brought him out of his shell and he blossomed there!!! The Teachers are so caring and loving!! He learned so much and made wonderful friends...and when my husband deployed to Afghanistan everyone was so supportive and understanding. My son took it very hard!!! We have made long standing friendships from Cherry Hill PreSchool and I can not wait to send my daughter there!!

Last year I was in search of a preschool to educate and nurture my twin daughters. I had been to quite a few places and when I walked into Cherry Hill PreSchool, Miss Cheryl was so warm and kind I knew this was the place for my girls! My daughters have blossomed so much since they started CHPS last fall. They are greeted each day with excitement and love. We are happy and blessed to have found such a warm, nurturing environment for our girls, they are already sad to graduate in June and move on to Kindergarten.

Cherry Hill PreSchool is a loving, educational environment with an "at home" feel to it. As a mother, I was so nervous to leave my child for the first time. I dropped my daughter off and she cried. I thought for a second maybe she wasn't ready. However, Miss Cheryl walked over, picked her up, comforted her and carried her in as if she were her own. It was right then that I knew I had made the right decision for my child. By day three, she was walking in without hesitation and with pride. My daughter has now been attending this school for almost 2 years and absolutely loves it. She is eagerly getting ready for Kindergarten and as her mother and an educator I feel she is more than prepared. We love this school so much that our youngest will start school here in September. We look forward to seeing him grow here as well. I have and will continue to highly recommend this school to anyone without hesitation.

Cherry Hill PreSchool came highly recommended by our neighbors and friends that sent their children there nearly 10 years earlier. After reading through the website, (we love the fact that CHPS is strictly a preschool-not a daycare) we visited with Miss Cheryl and her wonderful assistants, Miss Delaine and Miss Heather. We immediately loved the warm, inviting atmosphere and our daughter didn't want to leave. For two school years, she attended the 2-day and 3-day Preschool classes. The children have fun learning through play, but are also taught lessons about sharing, rules and classroom etiquette. It helped give our daughter the foundation she needed to start Kindergarten. We have never met a teacher that, despite 3 different classes each school year for 30+ years, has as much enthusiasm and energy from the first day of school to the last. The teachers really enjoy the work they do and it shows in the kids. We have recommended CHPS to our friends, (who have sent their children) and look forward to sending our youngest daughter there in the fall.

Three of my grandchildren have attended Cherry Hill Preschool in the past five years. Talking about the experience my family has had with Miss Cheryl, the other wonderful teachers and the class curriculum, is one of my favorite topics of discussion. The apprehension and anxiety of deciding whether to send the children to a preschool were quickly put to rest once the children started attending this school. The individual attention given to each child creates a fertile ground for the development of a desire to learn, self-confidence and finding a comfort zone away from home, many times, for the first time. I believe that my grandchildrens’ present academic success is directly linked with their Cherry Hill Preschool introduction to the academic, social environment of school. They were well prepared to handle the kindergarten school setting and this ‘comfort zone’ developed at the preschool that I eluded to earlier, continues on. My grandchildren presently excel at the NECAP national testing tool used in all schools. Again, I believe this is directly linked to their extraordinary first experience at Cherry Hill Preschool. I cannot say enough good about Cherry Hill Preschool. I have no reservations whatsoever recommending this school to anyone thinking of sending their little one there. You are in for a treat!
